Peaches

It's Wednesday, which means it is time for a "What If? Wednesday Sketch".  You have two weeks to enter your card using the sketch posted on the Repeat Impressions blog...The House That Stamps Built.  All participants will have a chance to win a $25 Repeat Impressions gift certificate.  I hope you'll play along with us.
This week the sketch looks like this:

Once again, I deviated a bit from the original sketch by moving the circle into the bottom corner.  I know, you're shocked, LOL.

I stamped the Repeat Impressions image of "Peaches" (504-L) with Marvy black dye ink onto X-Press It cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic markers, and then using the out-of-the-box technique cut a circle with a Nestabilities die. Some crystal Stickles provide some sparkle for the blossoms.  I then cut another panel with a Nestabilities die.

Patterned paper from Echo Park and Lasting Impressions form the layout of this card.  The "flags" were cut using MFT die-namics.  I paper pierced and faux stitched around the Echo Park panel.  A sheer white ribbon was added to the card.

Name That Toon

Welcome to "Name That Toon!" blog hop sponsored by Hambo Stamps! Today Hambo friends and the Bacon Bits Design Team are bringing you a dozen fun creations that depict comic strips! It might be our favorite, or just one that was fun to design. If you arrived here from the amazingly talented Jane France you are in the right place! If not, you might want to start back at the beginning at the Hambo blog to make sure you are eligible for the hopper prize!

A prize will be awarded to one participant whose comic strip-themed creation tickles the Bacon Bits’ fancy in a hammin’ jammin’ way!  Another prize will be awarded randomly to a hopper who comments on all of the blogs along the way. The winners will be announced on the Hambo company blog, Talk to the Ham, on Wednesday, January 23, as well as at the Hambo Hoedown challenge blog. We love comments anytime, but the deadline for prize entry comments is Sunday, January 20 at 5 PM CST. Don't miss it!

Confession time...I rarely ever read comics or pick up a newspaper, so when this blog hop theme was announced I knew I had to start searching for something to do.  I knew I wanted to have a comic that had a dog as a character.  I was thinking Peanuts which was my favorite comic during my childhood, but then I came across "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell.  I was immediately inspired because McDonnell uses his comic strip not only to portray the hilarious antics of a dog named Earl and (a cat named Mooch):

but also as a platform to advocate for pet adoption:

Once I became familiar with Mutts (and now I am a Facebook fan), I knew this would be comic strip, or "toon", I would depict.

For my card, I used several Hambo images, both rubber and digital.  I printed the following digital images onto X-Press It cardstock: HouseSign Posts, and Cat.  I colored the images with Copic markers and cut around each image with my Cutter-bee scissors.  I also stamped the Hambo image of "Dog" (1701) with Marvy black dye ink onto X-Press It cardstock.  It too was colored with Copic markers and cut around with my Cutter-bee scissors.

I framed two white squares of white cardstock with black carsdstock.  I arranged these squares onto a piece of newspaper depicting various comics.  I thought this would make a cool background.  I then added all of my colored images onto the "comic squares" to depict a happy little furever home scene.  I used my own handwriting to write a message with a Memento Tuxedo Black marker on the sign post.

Now laugh on over to the incredibly talented Paula for another great Comic Strip that will tickle your fancy!

Here's the hop order, just in case you need it:

Hot Air Balloon Slider

Repeat Impressions Rock Star Christy Schumacher challenged us to make a slider card for the latest Designer's Choice Challenge.  You can read all about this challenge on the Repeat Impressions blog, The House That Stamps Built

Using the tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers, I made this card.  It was a challenge, because I am a terrible cutter, measurer and direction follower, LOL.

Stamp used is Repeat Impressions image of "Hot Air Balloon" (9113-K).  Pattered paper is from Bella Blvd and Lasting Impressions.

A Moosage

It's Monday! What better way is there to make a Monday more bearable, than with a Stamp of the Week from Repeat Impressions?  This week’s SOTW is called "A Moosage" (1930-I). The SOTW is available exclusively to Repeat Impressions blog readers at 50% OFF with the special discount code from Monday, January 14 to Sunday, January 20. To get the discount code and more information about the SOTW, please go to the Repeat Impressions blog, The House That Stamps Built

For my card, I inked the Repeat Impressions image portion of  "A Moosage" (1930-I) with a Memento Tuxedo Black marker and stamped onto X-Press It cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic markers and then cut around the image with my Copic markers.

Then, using a Nestabilities die, I cut an oval from the actual cover of a pad of Graphic 45 patterned paper.  I paper pierced around the oval and faux stitched with a colored pencil.  I inked the sentiment portion of "A Moosage" (1930-I) onto the oval with my Memento Tuxedo Black marker.  I added three hearts punched from a light beige cardstock and framed with a light beige scalloped oval cut from a Nestabilities die.

The larger card panel is made from patterned paper from My Mind's Eye.  It was sponged with Adirondack Latte dye and was dry embossed with a Sizzix folder.  It too was paper pierced and faux stitched, and framed with light beige cardstock.  A sheer beige ribbon and bow put the finishing touches onto this card.

I'm wondering why I took such a wonderful masculine image and used that flowery Graphic 45 oval?  Oh well.  ;-)

Saturday In The Park

So this weekend was a real teaser around here.  60 degrees.  In January.  Made me really long for summer.

With hints of summer from the weather and this adorable Hambo image of  "Ice Cream Man" (4905), I could not stop signing on of my favorite songs (Saturday in the Park) from my favorite band (Chicago).  And from that, this card took on a life of it's own.

I stamped "Ice Cream Man" (4905) with Marvy black dye ink onto X-Press It cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic markers and cut out with my Cutterbee scissors.

I wanted his setting to be in a nice grassy park, so I printed the Hambo digital stamp of "Trees" onto X-Press it cardstock.  I colored the scene with Copic markers and framed it with some white cardstock.

Patterned paper from American Crafts provide the layers of this card, both the lime green grid and the musical notes along the bottom.  "Saturday in the Park" was computer-generated.  A transparent lime button, along with Baker's Twine was added to this strip.  I arranged the "park", music notes, and ice cream man onto the larger panel.

"...a man selling ice cream..."

Now that I've hopefully got you signing...

Do you want to work with some fun images like these, both digital and rubber?  Hambo Stamps is having a Design Team Call!  I totally urge you to apply because being a Bacon Bit is so much fun.  Read all of the details right here.

And, since we are talking "toons", why not "Name that Toon" with us during a Hambo Customer Blog Hop scheduled for this Friday.  We will be creating with the comic strips in mind. All of the details can be found on the Hambo Hoedown Blog. Sure hope you'll join us!  There's still time!

Rebecca

It's Wednesday, which means it is time for a "What If? Wednesday Sketch".  You have two weeks to enter your card using the sketch posted on the Repeat Impressions blog...The House That Stamps Built.  All participants will have a chance to win a $25 Repeat Impressions gift certificate.  I hope you'll play along with us.

This week the sketch looks like this:

I almost followed the sketch (I am really trying), but I had to substitute the dots in the lower corner for a ribbon.

To make this card, I stamped the Repeat Impressions image of "Rebecca" (708-K) with Marvy black dye ink onto X-Press It cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic markers.  I cut the image panel with a Nestabilities die, and then framed it with another panel cut from a Nestabilities die.

Patterned paper from Lasting Impressions and My Mind's Eye form the layers of this card.  Small clear beads and sheer white ribbon complete this card.

Snow

Repeat Impressions Rock Star Joy Hadden challenged us to have some snow on our creations for the latest Designer's Choice Challenge.  You can read all about this challenge on the Repeat Impressions blog, The House That Stamps Built

I decided to just go ahead and spell the word "SNOW", with the snowman acting as the letter "O".

I made this card by creating the background first.  On Georgia Pacific white cardstock, I place a torn Post-It note to create a mask for the snow-covered ground.  Using a brayer, I applied SeaShells Cloudy Blue dye ink and ColorBox Ice Blue chalk ink to create a basecoat.  I then sponged on Adirondack Sailboat Blue and Distress Ink Faded Jeans dye inks around the edges of the scene.  I painted the snowflakes with Copic Opaque White and removed the mask.

With my Cricut and the "George and Basic Shapes" cartridge, I cut out the letters of S-N-and-W using blue cardstock. I placed these letters onto the scene.  I then stamped the Repeat Impressions image of "Twig Hair Snowman" (2003-G) onto the scene with Marvy black dye.  I then stamped the image again onto X-Press It cardstock and colored with Copic markers.  I cut around the snowman with detailed scissors and placed it into the scene.

I framed the scene with black cardstock and patterned paper from Bo Bunny.

Huggies and Kisses

Happy New Year!  2012 was a bit bumpy for me, so I'm hoping for a smooth sailing 2013.

I'd like to share with you a card I made using some rubber stamps from Hambo.

I stamped the Hambo image of "Baby Got Back" (3224) with Marvy black dye ink onto X-Press It cardstock.  I colored the image with Copic markers.  I cut the image panel with a Nestabilities circle die and paper pierced around the circle.  I framed it with a piece of cardstock cut from a Nestabilities scalloped circle.

The sad thing about this card is that all of the patterned paper used was from unidentified scraps.  I am so sorry about that.  I can share that I used Sweet Stop Sketch #190 as a springboard for the layout.  I paper pierced and faux stitched with a colored pencil around the panels.

The sentiment "Huggies & Kisses" (3207) is also from Hambo.  It was stamped with Marvy black dye ink onto a flag cut from a Nestabilities die.  A sheer white bow and two little diaper pen charms complete the finishing details to this card.

I am so grateful that you visited my blog today.  I hope you come back again throughout the year as I love sharing my creations with others.  Here's wishing us all a 2013 filled with happiness and good health.
